On June 19, 2025, the Research Center at the University of Duhok conducted a meeting with a number of professors and researchers to discuss their views and opinions regarding the mechanisms of directing scientific research to serve society and solve social problems. This meeting was held under the title (Mechanisms of Directing Scientific Research for Community Service and Solving Kurdish Society Problems).

Dr. Sherzad Sabri, Dean of the Research Center at the University of Duhok, regarding the organization of this activity said: "The main purpose of organizing this activity is for our center to become a bridge for connecting the university's relationships with society in general, and government institutions, private sector, and social organizations in particular, to solve social problems and find solutions through scientific research and conducting practical and experimental research in this field. He also indicated that all opportunities and means will be provided for researchers to benefit from the university's equipment and laboratories to conduct their research."

During this activity, it was also discussed that scientific committees should filter research more so that research titles better serve Kurdish society, and all scientific departments of the university should be informed to focus more on those gaps that exist in scientific fields to determine the extent of their connection to society.

From another perspective, the Dean of the Research Center discussed the importance of research classification and establishing relationships with government strategic centers. Research should also be conducted on vital, important, and contemporary topics, such as narcotic substances, suicide phenomena, and climate change.

Another aspect of this activity focused on participants agreeing that the university and the mentioned center should give greater importance to workshops, symposiums, and scientific activities so that researchers can serve society through research. It was also discussed that researchers need to distance themselves from repetitive research, and researchers should strive through the Research Center to obtain small and large funding as a means for advancing scientific research. The university should also provide more databases to facilitate researchers' work. Additionally, academic and advanced research writing courses should be organized for young and new researchers.

Finally, in the meeting, it was mentioned that "the university needs to designate a specific day called Research Day at the University of Duhok, and on this day, annual research statistics should be presented and the best researchers should be honored."
